This is the first post of three that I will write about winterizing your vehicle. For those of us who live in regions where snow happens, preparing your car or truck for winter is very important. I can't stress enough the benefits of routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, etc; but getting your vehicle ready for sub-zero temperatures is critical.
Some fluids that should be checked and possibly replaced are:
- Engine Coolant (anti-freeze) that should have a perfect 50/50 ratio of water and antifreeze which would offer a protection of -34°F
- Transmission and Differential (where applicable) fluids
- Windshield Washer Solvent changed to winter blend (I highly recommend Rain-X ® brand)
- Brake Fluid
Additionally, it is important to have serviced:
- Windshield Wiper Blades replaced
- Fuel Filter (where applicable) replaced
In later posts, I will start talking about how to prepare your vehicle and yourself for the long winter months. Also, I have plenty of stories about some crazy things I've done and seen during snow driving....
